A SHORT
PROFILE
With the induction of Science Section
in the College in 1969, Physics was
introduced as one of the Core Subjects in
the Pre-University Course under Dibrugarh
University. Mr. A.H. Laskar was in charge of
the Physics Department under the management
of the Gargaon College Governing Body. B.Sc.
Course was first introduced in the College
in 1974, and affiliation for the Degree
Course was received in the same year from
Dibrugarh University. The College Science
Section received Grant-in-Aid from 1975 (1st
December) with due concurrence from the
Govt. of Assam. With the establishment of
the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council
in 1988, the Pre-University section of the
College (both Arts & Science) was undertaken
by the Council. Major in Physics in the
B.Sc. Course was first introduced in 1988,
and permission and affiliation was obtained
in the same year. Since 1992, the Department
of Physics has been functioning with six
Lecturers and two laboratory bearers
(assistants). The laboratory has a capacity
for thirty students having Physics as a core
subject, and ten students having Physics as
Major.
The Department of Physics has been able to
make a record success in producing 80 to
100% pass percentage results in the final
examinations in the last few years. In the
final year examination of 2005, cent percent
success has been achieved in the category of
both Physics Major and Physics Core.
For promoting quality of education and to
promote still better results, the Faculty
Members of the Department under the
Chairmanship of Prof. P.K. Boruah, has
adopted a few resolutions:
(1) To cooperate in the fresh system of
imposing Internal Assessment as per the
guidelines of Dibrugarh University
(2) To assign home works to the students and
the papers evaluated for the purpose of
Internal Assessment
(3) To institute Sessional Examinations
(4) To consider students’ attendance for
purpose of Internal Assessments.
The Department has its own built up area with
full laboratory facility and also the
requisite classrooms for theory classes.
With its experienced Faculty Members, Office
Staff and the necessary infrastructure the
Department has its fresh aspirations and
vision to introduce new self employable
subjects in near future.
